Garbage and recycling are collected weekly by the City of Edmonton on the same day of the week year-round. Exceptions are Christmas Day (December 21) and New Year’s Day (January 1).
Please do not put your garbage out any earlier than the night before.
If you store your garbage alongside your house, in the back or even in your garage awaiting garbage pickup day please ensure that it is stored in tightly covered containers so as not to attract rodents. We have had problems in the past with mice as a result of garbage improperly stored.
Eco Stations
Eco Stations are convenient waste drop-off facilities where you can bring electronics and household hazardous waste like paint, batteries and light bulbs, and anything that does not belong in your regular garbage.
Edmonton’s community recycling depots are a convenient way to dispose of recyclables from your home or small business. Most locations are open 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. Each bin has a label on the front to tell you what type of product should be placed in it. Please carefully read the labels and follow the instructions.
Recycling Depots accept: paper (including shredded paper, newspaper and magazines), boxes, cardboard, plastic bags, and all recyclable containers, cans and bottles.
Recycling Depots do not accept: furniture, tires, home renovation material, mattresses, bikes, household hazardous waste or any kind of home appliances (fridges, stoves, washers, dryers, monitors and TVs), among other things. These items should be taken to an Eco Station, Big Bin Event or the Edmonton Waste Management Centre.
It is illegal to leave garbage, non-recyclable materials, and large items such as fridges, renovation materials and furniture at the City’s Recycling Depots. Illegal dumping at Recycling Depots is monitored and offenders will be fined $250.
Reuse means to use something again and again rather than only once. The goal of reuse is to keep using items as long as they have a function or value. The Reuse & Recycling Directory Reuse & Recycling Directory has a list of charities, businesses and services that can take your unwanted household items and find someone who will put them to good use.
The Reuse Centre collects everyday items five days a week, year-round, and makes them available to groups and individuals who will reuse them.
You can also take your refuge directly to the Waste Management Centre (Cloverbar Dump).
See attached link for fees, directions and hours of operation.
The $50.00 monthly fee is mandatory as it is part of your agreement as a homeowner and cannot be opted out of. It shows up as an Encumbrance on your Land Title Certificate.
The details of the Encumbrance can be found in the RPHA Brochure as Schedule “H” pages 81 to 83. This fee is necessary to cover costs and expenses of operation & maintenance of River Point facilities:
Road maintenance eats up the bulk of the fee so without this fee we would not be able to maintain River Point as per the “Maintenance Agreement” we signed with the City of Edmonton when RPHA was first formed. If we fall into disrepair the City has the right to conduct the repairs at RPHA expense + 18 % interest.
If you fall into arrears with your monthly fee the Property Management Company has the authorization (because of the Encumbrance) to file a caveat against your Land Title Certificate and take legal action against you to collect.
